POMPEII THERMOPOLIUM ESCAVATION SITE: a path to follow to visit the archaeological area of Pompeii starts from Porta Marina so called because it faces the sea. This gate, which almost looks like a tower included in the walls of the ancient city, had two passages: one for pedestrians, the other for animals and light means of transport. In one of its niches there is the terracotta statue of Minerva, protector of the door. Near the gate stood the Suburban Villa of Porta Marina, a residence from the imperial era, with frescoes in the third Pompeian style (20 BC – 45 AD), of an Egyptian style. Just outside the door are the suburban Baths, opened to the public in 2002, characterized by a peculiar dressing room, in which erotic pictures are frescoed that probably served as a placeholder for the prostitution activities provided to customers. In Via Marina stands the Temple of Venus built by Silla in 80 BC. given his particular devotion to the goddess. On the left, always on the same trajectory, stands the Temple of Apollo, consisting of a portico with forty-eight columns. This temple dates back to the Samnite era, it has paintings in the fourth Pompeian style, which is at times ornamental and at times rigid, essential.
